I have been given some money to buy some supplies but as I am starting from ground zero, it won't stretch far enough since as a first year teacher I am starting out with nothing. Most of these children live in poverty and therefore cannot afford even the most basic of school supplies. Some of you expressed interest in helping out. If that is you, I would GREATLY appreciate anything to help equip our classroom. In particular we are in need of the following:
1)tacs
2)pens
3)markers
4)construction paper
5)tacs
6)mini-white boards
7)lined paper
In addition to the above list, we are also in desperate need of books. Most of my children will be reading below grade level so books reading level 3 and below would be fabulous and so much appreciated. They, of course, do not need to be new, but in good condition. Some titles which I particularly would like to see in our classroom include:
Also, because many of the children live in poverty, there is a need for basic survival items like winter jackets, socks, underwear, pants, shirts, toothbrush, soap, etc.

The situation on the Rez is bleak. Pine Ridge has the lowest life expectancy rate in the Western Hemisphere, minus Haiti. It also has one of the highest suicide rates in the world. Finally, it is the 3rd poorest county in the nation. Any way that you could help us would be so appreciated.
But of all the things that you could give, what I covet most is your prayers. Please, please, do not forget us. God alone brings beauty for ashes and the oil of gladness for mourning. Play that Jehovah Rapah--the Healer, begins to heal at Little Wound.
