In other news...
My blizzard-bound children have finally returned to school. I was truly overjoyed. In fact, there presence caused today to be the first day we had perfect attendance in a long time. They add such a beautiful dimension to our class.
In total, the J girls missed 10 school days. However, in reality they probably received as good, if not better, education at home. Their mom, J, is an amazing teacher and a good friend. Actually, J reminds me a lot of my research partner from Uganda, who lives in Alaska, is getting married in December and moving to Thailand. They both are always doing crazy things. For instance, J has strep so she told me that she was using all sort of objects to scrape the white stuff off her throat. I could just see her using a fork to scrape the bacteria off her throat. Gross! And at church the other day, I noticed that she was wearing glasses. I was shocked when she pulled them from her face and they snapped back! One of the babies broke one arm of the glasses so she broke the other off and attached elastic instead! I laughed so hard. She is always doing funny things like that. But I guess she has to having seven kids to take care of with no running water, heat or electricity.
I am having Thanksgiving with their family on Thursday. I can't wait to see how the are going to cook a 20 pound turkey in a wood stove!
P.S. In some ways, J reminds me of Annie Oakley, so I have included a picture of the famous tamer of the West.
