In the shipment of books Tracy sent was the book Moses: Harriet Tubman Leads Her People to Freedom. It is SUCH a powerful story--one I first heard about while at College. I remember looking at the book and saying that I would one day buy that for my kids. Well, Tracy did instead! Anyway, I was so excited to get the book, I nearly drove off the road! (I wouldn't recommend driving a stick shift and opening up boxes from the postal service at the same time).

It was so cool to read the story to my class. It has such an amazing message of God's compassion for His people. It explicitly talks about God and by reading to my babies, I actually got to tell them the story of the Hebrew Moses and how he had led God's people out of Israel. I trust that seeds have been planted. Thank you so much for sowing, Tracy!
Tracy also sent some really neat Solar System stuff for science. Furthermore, she shipped a handful of books on the Civil Rights! My kids were so stoked. We now have an entire reading tub dedicated just to the Civil Rights movement. It makes me so happy to just look at it. Finally, she also sent the movie "Selma, Lord, Selma" which takes place during the Civil Rights--and to be the subject of a class-wide sleep over! Plus, she gave us a world map! I am so stoked as it is even dry-erase friendly. I used it excessively while teaching the Holocaust. Thanks so much Tracy--I always knew being Whitne's best friend was worth it :)
In addition to Tracy's boxes of wonder, I got a shipment of books from Christy L, whom I would LOVE to thank so much...but who actually is Christy L from PA? Now, I can think of at least 3 Christy's from PA that I know, but none of them have that last name. So what did this amazing mystery woman send? First, a book that was recommended to me by another blogger called "The Hundred Dresses." It's an oldie-but-goodie that warns against the dangers of bullying and judging those who have less than we do--a lesson we all need to learn. She also sent the Boxcar Children Books:1-4, which are the books that I credit with developing my passion for reading. Finally, she sent One Hen-a book that illustrates the power of microfinance loans. (If you need a ministry to donate to, checkout http://www.hopeinternational.org/ they are so legit.) As an International Development major, I can testify to the power of microfinance. Such a small amount of money can radically change someones life. I would love for our class to give a microfinance loan to someone in need...Again, thank you to Christy L. for the goods.

Tracy's sister (sister-in-law) Tooie also sent our class goods via an Amazon gift card. Being the incredible shopper and deal hunter that I am, I was able to snag some incredible books. They were all related to the Civil Rights. A few of particular interest are I Have A Dream and The Story Of Ruby Bridges. The former is an incredible book that provides pictorial representations of MLK's famous "I Have a Dream Speech." (If you haven't ever actually listened to the speech, please do.) My kids, were really, really stoked to see that book come in. The latter book is the story of Ruby Bridges--the first African American to integrate the segregated schools of New Orleans. My kids really like it because she was a world-changer at age 6! Plus, she prayed for those hurling insults at her, every day, twice a day. Perhaps a lesson for us in loving our enemies? Thanks so much for these additions Tooie!

My sister and her best friend, Cynthia, struck again as well. They landed some truly incredible books at garage sales. I was particularly stoked about these brand new audio Disney books that come with audio CDs. I am going to have my struggling readers read these books and follow along with their fingers. They also sent several more folders--good thing because I haven't been to Dante's Inferno, aka Rapid City, in a long while. Plus, Banny saved the day by sending me a phone--reconnecting me with the outside world, as much as SoDak's horrible reception will allow.
Finally, Mommy and Daddy sent me a box of food which included the highly treasured gifts of Lemon Heads, Starbursts and Carribean Black Beans, which can't be purchased anywhere but Rosauers. Plus, she sent copies of the new testmanent which are disguised by cool Native American covers. I plan on putting one in my reading library!

In short, Room 170 is only operating because of the support of all of you. Your prayers, your emails, your goods--thank you so much. It means so much to me and my babies.
I have so much more to tell you, but it shall have to wait until another day.
